The Best Legal Blogs of 2015

Do you have a list of New Year’s Resolutions? Does it include writing more content for your law firm blog in 2016? Probably not, but it should!  Content marketing is the fastest way to increase your website authority and share your firm’s expertise.  Here are a few of the best law firm blogs of 2015 to get you inspired.

1. Above the Law

Above the Law (ATL) is my favorite legal blog because it is a good mix of law-gossip, legitimate legal news, and sarcasm.  ATL is great for law students and attorneys who want to follow Big Law, but find Big Law blogs a bit dry.

Read this when: You want to catch up on Big Law gossip, or read interesting tidbits of what is going on in the legal world.

2. 3 Geeks and A Law Blog

I was turned on to 3 Geeks and A Law Blog by an IP startup I was working with.  3 Geeks focuses on legal technology and marketing, written primarily by the three founding “geeks.” What I really love about this publication is that every time I read a post, I learn something new.

Read this when: You want to learn something about legaltech from an educated perspective that doesn’t come off as boring or condescending.

3. Business Insider – Law & Order

While arguably the most “vanilla” on the list, this is a no nonsense compilation of what is going on in today’s legal landscape. I believe that anyone can enjoy the Law & Order blog, and really begin to understand how intertwined the legal system is to our everyday life.

Read this when: You want to learn more about law without feeling like you’re doing it.

4. iPhone J.D.

I stumbled across iPhone J.D. when running some ads for a legaltech client. I was amazed that attorneys were completely unaware that they could use their smartphones to make their lives easier.  I am starting to think that attorneys only have three apps on their phone: email, online banking, and their camera. iPhone J.D. spends time reviewing apps that are mostly helpful to solo attorneys. The articles are detailed enough to help even the least tech-savvy people understand what an app does and how to use it.

Read this when: You are ready to use your smartphone for more than just taking pictures and getting emails.

5. Lawyerist

Lawyerist is a good mix of legal marketing, practice management, and client acquisition. It’s a good place to start if you are looking to improve your law firm’s revenue.  If you’re really crunched for time, Lawyerist has a ton of podcasts you can listen to on the go.

Read this when: You want to learn more about creating a presence for you law firm online, but don’t know where to start.
